HEC Warns Students On 2 Year Degree Program Admissions

The Higher Education Commission HEC has again warned all students not to waste their time and money by getting admissions in unauthorized degree programs, including two-year BA / BSc and MA / MSc programs.

After Karachi University’s decision for resumption of two-year BA / BSc and MA / MSc programs in Sindh’s public and private universities, HEC offcially warned studnets. KU also decided to postpone the implementation of HEC’s two-year associate degree program in the province’s universities until June next year.

According to an official statement of HEC, one or two universities have announced the resumption of admission to unauthorized two-year BA / B.Sc and MA / M.Sc programs. Although these universities will reap financial benefits from admission, it will have a negative impact on students with these degrees, as they will not be eligible for future employment or higher education.

The HEC clarified that in view of serious concerns about the quality of such programs, the two-year BA / BSc and MA / MSc programs were developed and replaced by a four-year BS / B.Sc. It was decided to have a degree. However, both systems were allowed to continue during the university transition period.

The transition period ended in 2016 and the HEC decided to terminate the BA / BSc programs on December 31, 2018 and the MA / MSc programs on December 31, 2020. It was also decided that the final examination of BA / BSc would be held. Will be taken during admission in 2020. The last batch of MA / MSc will be before 31st December 2020. The HEC reminded all the universities of these decisions in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Additionally, HEC introduced a two-year associate’s degree in 2011 as an alternative to a BA / BSc degree. The HEC Associate Degree is equivalent to 14 years of education and allows students to enroll in the fifth semester of the relevant bachelor’s programs after meeting the university admissions requirements.

However, the HEC allowed some relaxation in universities due to barriers caused by the corona virus epidemic.

A grace period of three months has been given to complete the final examinations of BA / BSc before March 31, 2021. The last date for admission in the last MA / Lot has been extended for the convenience of students of the last batch of BA / BSc examinations. MSc from December 31, 2020 to March 31, 2021.

The HEC also allowed BA / B.Sc degree holders to apply for admission in the fifth semester of BS programs, which require completion of a berth semester or any additional course through the admitting university Subject to happens. He also appealed to the students who did not meet the deadline to apply for the fifth semester of Bachelor’s programs in Masters and Master’s programs.

After more than 16 years, HEC has finally abolished the two-year BA / BSc and MA / MSc programs under this undergraduate education policy, which was implemented in January this year.
