LG Terminates Smartphone Manufacturing

LG announced the termination of its smartphone business in early April 2021.

At the time, however, the company said it would continue to manufacture phones until July to complete its contracts.

The deadline for shutting down the smartphone business was set for July 31, but LG has stopped production of the phones.

According to a report, LG has converted its smartphone manufacturing factory in Vietnam into a unit of household electrical products.

However, there are currently no reports of other smartphone manufacturers.

But according to the report, the factory was shut down after the company manufactured the last smartphones.

LG was once one of the world’s largest mobile phone companies, but Samsung and Chinese companies lost its popularity.

Prior to LG, companies such as BlackBerry and Nokia had to abandon their smartphone business due to difficulties.

Now the two companies are back in the market, but HMD has a Nokia brand license, while BlackBerry has shared something else.

When the first iPhone went on sale in 2007, LG was the 5th largest mobile phone company after Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

LG’s CEO took office in early 2020 and promised at the time that the mobile division would be made profitable in 2021.

He did not mention any plans in this regard, but the company’s unique phones such as Velvet and Wing did not get much attention.

LG’s mobile division has never been profitable since 2015, and now faces competition from several Chinese companies, including Samsung.

Customers using LG’s existing phones will continue to receive Android operating updates for 4 years, while the company will also provide after-sales service for 4 years from the manufacturing date.
