Samsung’s PM1743 PCIe 5.0 SSD solution promises nearly doubled data transfer speeds and lower power consumption compared to the previous generation.
For corporate servers and especially data centers, Samsung is unveiling a PCIe Gen 5.0 SSD called PM1743. It therefore benefits from doubled bandwidth to 32 Gbps per line compared to Gen 4.0 solutions.
According to Samsung, the PM1743 offers a sequential read speed of up to 13 GB / s and sequential write speed of up to 6.6 GB / s. Performance which is respectively 1.9x and 1.7x higher than that of previous products in PCIe Gen 4.0.
In random read and write, the promised speeds in number of I / O operations per second are 2.5 million and 250,000. Results 1.7x and 1.9x better.
Samsung further points out that it has improved energy efficiency by 30% compared to the previous generation to 608 MB / s per watt. “This should significantly reduce the operating costs of servers and data centers, while helping to reduce their carbon footprint.”
For the PM1743, capacities from 1.92TB to 15.36TB will be offered with models in a typical 2.5-inch form factor, as well as 3-inch EDSFF (E3.S). Mass production is mentioned for the first quarter of 2022.
