Microsoft has taken another step to prevent users of its operating systems from switching from the proprietary built-in Edge browser to the rival Google Chrome.
The Microsoft Edge browser on Windows 10 and Windows 11 has started to display hints when users navigate to the Chrome download page.
These alerts dissuade users from installing the Google browser:
“Microsoft Edge runs on the same technology as Chrome, but enjoys a lot of trust from Microsoft.”
“This browser is like 2008! Do you know who’s new? Microsoft Edge ”
“I hate saving money,” no one will ever say that. Microsoft Edge is the best browser for online shopping “
This is not the first such attempt. Microsoft started testing “warnings” for users trying to install Chrome or Firefox back in 2018, but then dropped them . Also, Microsoft makes it difficult to work with third-party browsers on Windows. For example, in early November, Windows 11 stopped allowing Microsoft Edge-linked links to open in third-party browsers.
